Singer Michelle Branch arrested amid split from Black Keys’ Patrick Carney

Michelle Branch, a singer, and songwriter announced her divorce from Patrick Carney on Thursday. She was accused of hitting her husband during an argument. According to an affidavit obtained by The Times, the “Everywhere” singer was taken into police custody following a Nashville police call to their home on Thursday for a possible domestic disorder.

Branch, 39, was arrested and charged with domestic assault shortly after. She was released after posting a $1,000 bond. John Adams, deputy chief-of-staff for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, stated that Branch was released on bail. The branch is due to appear in court on Nov. 11. Branch informed police officers that she and Carney were having marital problems and had been arguing when they called them to their home. Branch confessed to hitting Carney on the face “one or two times” during their argument.

Carney, 42, was interviewed by law enforcement officers and stated that Branch had slapped her. However, he didn’t have any visible injuries, according to the affidavit. Branch’s mugshot, which was released by the Metropolitan National Police Dept. on Friday, showed redness in her right eye. The arrest took place before Branch released a statement on Thursday, announcing the end of their three-year marriage. This was hours after she publicly accused Carney of cheating.

Branch stated that “To say I am completely devastated doesn’t come close to describing what I feel for myself, and for my family,” in a statement to People/TMZ. Branch said that the rug was pulled from under me and now it is up to me to figure out how I can move forward. I have such young children, I request privacy and kindness.” Wednesday’s tweet by the “All You Wanted?” and “Are You Happy Now?” singer claimed that Carney had cheated on her with her manager while she was at home with her 6-month-old daughter.

Branch and Carney representatives did not respond to The Times’s request for comment on Friday. Branch and Carney were married at the Marigny Opera House, New Orleans, in April 2019. They met at the Grammy Awards party. Their relationship began through Carney’s 2017 pop-rock album “Hopeless Romantic,” which Carney co-wrote and produced.

The couple also welcomed Rhys James in August 2018, adding to Willie. From her 11-year marriage with bass player Teddy Landau, Owen Isabelle is the singer’s 17-year-old daughter. In 2015, she and Landau ended their relationship.

Carney is currently on tour with the Black Keys’ Dropout Boogie. Branch has just released the single “I’m a Man” and will release “The Trouble With Fever”, her next album, on Sept. 16. She will then begin touring to promote it on Sept. 15.
