AEW Rampage Results (08/26) – Three Title Matches, We Hear From Two Different Champions

Two championships will be up for grabs in tonight’s event. Claudio Castagnoli will be putting his Ring Of Honor Title on the line against Dustin Rhodes. Castagnoli made an open challenge in the last week to which Rhodes responded. The two players shook hands in a gesture of respect and appreciation for each other and they both pledged to show their A-Games. Castagnoli was the winner of the championship in Death Before Dishonor in late July after he defeated Jonathan Gresham. Can his reign as champion be over?

TNT Champion Wardlow will be fighting the chief of the Wingmen, Ryan Nemeth. Wardlow was awarded the title by Scorpio Sky in a Street Fight on the July 6th issue of “Dynamite”. Prior to the fight, Wardlow was a member of The Pinnacle with MJF, FTR along with Shawn Spears. He left The Pinnacle after becoming fed up with the way in the way MJF was treated before signing an agreement with AEW to become a member of their lineup.

The newlyweds Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo will take on the new team consisting of Ortiz as well as Ruby Soho. Ortiz and Soho together with their allies, the Blackpool Combat Club and Eddie Kingston have experienced difficulties in the past with Guevara, Melo, and the Jericho Appreciation Society in the past few months.

The AEW World Trios Championship Tournament continues this evening as a quarter-finals contest between MalakaiBlack, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews from House of Black. House of Black will take on Dark Order members John Silver, Alex Reynolds, and Preston “10” Vance. The winner will be able to play Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta along with Chuck Taylor of Best Friends in the semi-finals.

Two different champions. FTW Champion Hook as well as Hook and the TBS champion Jade Cargill are both set to appear at the event. Hook took home the FTW Title from Ricky Starks just a few weeks ago, after responding to his open question. Cargill is the sole TBS Champion since winning the TBS tournament for the title.

We’re online! House of Black and Dark Order already waiting in the circle. King and 10 start the battle. The bell rings, and they lock in. 10 delivers a pump kick before tagging in Silver.

Matthews tags in, and Silver disappears over the top. Matthews is able to catch him however, Silver escapes and unleashes an unforced handspring. Matthews gives an attack on Silver’s midsection prior to Black and Reynolds joining in. Reynolds is able to deliver a back slide however, Black kicks him out.

After breaking point, Black delivers a back elbow. Matthews hits Reynolds’ elbow prior to Black strikes Reynolds with a number of kicks. 10 enters and delivers a spine breaker to Black. 10 locks are locked in the Full Nelson before Black delivers an arm and knee. 10 locks in the Full Nelson, but Black takes the brace off 10’s knee.

Black tries to find the Lariat Discus and his knee breaks. Black is able to lock in the knee bar, but Reynolds joins in just before the music starts to play and he slams down. Miro removes Matthews and King and allows Reynolds to take on Black for victory.

The winners: Dark Order

Following the fight After the match, after the match, House of Black beat down Miro. Darby Allin’s music blasts and the duo of Sting make their way toward the ring in order to make the necessary save.

We return towards Hook along with Lexy Nair. She questions him about the clip that was made by Matt Menard and Angelo Parker. He replies that he doesn’t really take it in and goes away. Matt Menard and Angelo Parker arrive and claim to can see through the man. He says that the public considers him a celebrity and wonders what would happen would happen if they stole away the FTW title from his name.

Ryan Nemeth then heads to the ring, with a microphone in his hand. He laments his hometown of Cleveland before saying that he’s glad that he made it out. Wardlow is interrupted and walks off toward the ring, to the sound of a huge roar from the local crowd.

Chris Sabin, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh are on the top of the hill. Nemeth insists not to fret about them and that he is worthy of the gold.
