College football player Luke Knox died suddenly at 22

FIU announced that Luke Knox, a linebacker for FIU, died unexpectedly at the age of 22. Knox started his college football career with Ole Miss. Knox was a freshman and had 10 tackles, 2 pass breakups, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 pass breakups. Knox was a linebacker for two seasons before moving to tight end. He will then switch back to linebacker during the 2021 football season.

Knox transferred from Ole Miss to Florida International during the 2022 offseason. FIU head coach Mike MacIntyre spoke in tribute to Knox. MacIntyre stated, “Words can’t express the deep sorrow we feel due to the passing of our friend and teammate, Luke Knox.”

“I had the privilege of coaching Luke at Ole Miss as well as at FIU. His passion for football was admirable, but his genuine love for his family is what I will always treasure. His unique way of making people feel confident and comfortable was what made him so special. Knox was the younger brother to Dawson Knox, Buffalo Bills tight end.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott expressed his gratitude to the Knox family by saying that “our hearts go out to Dawson’s family during this time.” We stand by him and support him and his family. We love him, and we support his family.”
